The Posthuman Hospital (포스트휴먼 병동)
USA, South Korea / 2023 / Color / Sound / 6m 54s / Digital
The Posthuman Hospital is an experimental animation project that delves into the blurred boundaries between the human and the non-human in the age of technological advancements. Inspired by Donna Haraway's Cyborg Manifesto, this work explores the evolving relationship between the human body and technology. The piece envisions an imaginary hospital where various "posthuman" patients are observed, offering a critical look into the integration and hybridization of the human and the technological, challenging the traditional binary of human versus machine. The animation utilizes a variety of digital techniques, such as 3D scanning of everyday objects and the overlay of Super 8mm film scans onto 3D-rendered imagery. This approach creates a distinctive visual texture that feels both familiar and otherworldly, emphasizing the uncanny and the grotesque. Through these experimental visual effects, the work seeks to provoke questions about the future of techno-humanity and the concept of identity in an increasingly hybrid world.
